Fight the African Stereotype

I came across these powerful posters on Tumblr created by a group of students from Ithaca College called The Real Africa: Fight the Stereotype to shed light on the misconceptions of Africa. The purpose of the campaign is to showcase the stereotypes these students have faced in their day to day lives. I believe that is a wonderful awareness and I hope that it educates those who are unfamiliar with the African culture and will make a huge impact in society.  The college has a Facebook page  you can join to help show your support so be sure to check it out.  What do you think of the campaign? Let me know your thoughts.

There are so much stereotypes of Africa out there and this really is a great way to educate people on our beautiful continent.

Love this. Wish this was around when I went to uni. During freshers week I was handed at least 10 ‘learn english classes’ flyers EVERY DAY! Really used to irritate me. I can’t speak for Africa as a whole but Nigerians learn English in primary school. It is my first and sadly only language.
